What We Clean

Filter Service Process
- Disconnect filter safely and note settings
- Clean filter body, impeller and tubing with tank water (not tap water)
- Inspect and clean filter media — replacing only media that needs it
- Check and clean spray bar / outlet
- Inspect inlet strainer and clean if blocked
- Reassemble, prime and restart filter
- Verify flow rate and function
- Advise on media replacement schedule
Why We Use Tank Water, Not Tap Water
This is critical — cleaning filter media in tap water kills the beneficial bacteria colonies responsible for biological filtration. We always use tank water to rinse media, preserving your nitrogen cycle and preventing a dangerous ammonia spike after service.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should a filter be cleaned?
Most filters need cleaning every 4–8 weeks depending on tank bioload and the filter type. Heavily stocked tanks or those with large messy fish may need monthly service. We'll advise the right schedule for your system.
Should all filter media be replaced at once?
No — replacing all media at once removes all beneficial bacteria and can crash the nitrogen cycle. We replace only worn or clogged media, and never all at once, to maintain biological balance.
Can you service any brand of filter?
Yes — we're familiar with all major aquarium filter brands and types, from simple internal filters to complex sump setups.
