Aquarium Health Checks
& Treatment
This service is led personally by Hasan, co-founder of AD Aquatics, who has specialist knowledge in water parameter optimisation, fish disease identification and aquarium health diagnostics. Every assessment includes a written report with findings and recommendations.
Regular health checks catch problems early — before minor issues become major losses. Our health check service provides a thorough assessment of your tank's water chemistry, equipment function, plant health and fish behaviour.
Health Check Includes
- Full water parameter test: pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, GH, KH, phosphate, dissolved oxygen — see species parameter requirements
- Filter function and media assessment
- Fish behaviour and physical condition review
- Plant health and nutrient deficiency identification
- Equipment check — heater, pump, lights, CO₂
- Algae type identification and root cause assessment
- Written report with findings and recommendations
Disease Identification & Treatment
When fish show signs of illness, early and correct diagnosis is critical. Hasan identifies common freshwater fish diseases and provides treatment plans including medication dosing, quarantine advice and environmental correction.
- White spot / Ich (Ichthyophthirius multifiliis) — raised white spots, scratching, clamped fins
- Velvet disease (Oodinium) — gold/rust dust appearance, rapid breathing
- Bacterial infections — fin rot, body ulcers, pop-eye, dropsy
- Fungal infections — white cotton-like growths on body or fins
- Internal parasites — wasting, stringy white faeces, loss of appetite
- Swim bladder disorder — buoyancy issues, floating or sinking
Common Water Quality Issues We Address
- Ammonia or nitrite spikes — new tank syndrome or cycle crash
- Elevated nitrate — build-up in established tanks causing chronic stress
- pH instability — crashes or swings stressing fish and affecting disease resistance
- Hardness imbalances — GH/KH mismatch for species requirements
- Low dissolved oxygen — especially in warm discus or planted tanks
- Nutrient deficiencies — causing yellowing, holes in leaves, poor plant growth

Frequently Asked Questions
My fish are dying — what should I do?
Contact us immediately. For Premium maintenance clients, Hasan offers same/next-day emergency call-out. For other clients, we'll advise remotely while arranging a visit as quickly as possible. Do not add medications without proper diagnosis — the wrong treatment can make things worse.
How often should health checks be performed?
Monthly health checks are ideal — included in all our maintenance packages. We recommend at minimum quarterly checks for established, stable tanks. New setups benefit from fortnightly checks during the first 2–3 months.
Can you treat disease remotely?
Hasan can provide guidance and treatment protocols remotely with clear photos or short videos of affected fish. However, an in-person visit allows water parameter testing alongside the physical assessment for a more complete picture.
Are treatments included in the maintenance plan cost?
Health assessments and treatment advice are included. Medication and treatment products are charged at cost price. We'll always advise costs clearly before ordering anything.
